Book Review Guidelines

The book review section of the Journal of Jewish Identities seeks to foster an interdisciplinary space in which to announce and evaluate new and/or thought-provoking perspectives, topics, methods, and theories in Jewish Studies. The book review section is intended for rigorous intellectual dialogue and interdisciplinary bridge-building. Reviews should not only accurately and fairly summarize a book’s content. They should specify the work’s scope and contribution to scholarship and assess fairly its strengths and weaknesses. A review should place a book within the context of its field(s) and also consider its internal consistency. Reviews should be well-written and convey the book’s value and pertinence to various scholarly audiences. Although normative language is of course appropriate, the Journal of Jewish Identities will not publish reviews with ad hominem attack or distortions of content. The editorial policy of the Journal of Jewish Identities does not accept unsolicited reviews. Individuals who wish to be considered potential book reviewers should send an email with an attached CV as well as a list of keywords about the kinds of topics they can review to: revieweditor@jewishidentities.org .

The deadline for book reviews for the January 2008 edition of the journal  is July 1, 2007.
